Microdermabrasion: Is it for you?

I was talking to a customer of mine the other day about our special this month which is a FREE Microdermabrasion Creme with any 4-step skin care system (aka "Build Your Own" system). It is a great deal since you are already saving up to $22 on the skin care system but then you get a $28 product for FREE as well. Wow!

Anyway, my customer was leery of trying the Microdermabrasion Creme because she has super sensitive skin and has had bad reactions to other chemical treatments. I let her know that there is no chemical stripping of the skin and that it is a super micro-fine scrub that is extra gentle on your skin. It's like no other scrub she has probably ever tried. So, a few days later I brought in my jar and had her try a small amount on her hand. She was impressed!

This also got me thinking that people probably don't know what this spa treatment is and how it is a very different treatment than a chemical peel. So, here I am searching online for some information and thought I would share it with you:

Sensaria in Sequim writes this on her Facebook Fan Page:

"When you use the microdermabrasion creme, it lifts all the dead skin off, plus old makeup, sebum, oil, sweat & environmental polution, it allows other products you are using like the toner, repair products and serums & moisturizers to be better absorbed by your skin. You've essentially removed the barriers so your skin can drink up what it needs.

Here's how it minimizes fine lines & wrinkles: Think of a facial line or wrinkle that's filled with some dead skin, etc...it looks deep. When you remove the dead skin, etc. you are freeing it allowing it to plump up naturally.

The microdermabrasion creme stimulates new cell growth underneath and that's how it can reduce sun damage (freckles), age spots, pregnancy spots and generally uneven skin tones."

Skin Care Resource Guide has this to say about the differences between microdermabrasion and chemical peels:

"Both chemical peel treatments and microdermabrasion treatments are used to resurface and exfoliate the skin. The treatments work in different ways to achieve similar results.

Microdermabrasion is recommended to improve superficial skin imperfections. This includes mild acne scars, age spots or sun spots, enlarged or visible pores, and fine lines. A chemical peel, whether it is lactic acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or other variation, is recommended for more serious skin conditions such as deep or severe acne scarring and moderate wrinkles or extensive sun damage. This means that the recovery time from a chemical peel may be longer as well."

Skin Care Resource Guide also wrote this article about home and professional treatments:

"Professional microdermabrasion treatments administered by a dermatologist or esthetician uses a special machine which sprays aluminum oxide crystals onto the skin. Only licensed professionals are allowed to use microdermabrasion machines. Professional microdermabrasion treatments are somewhat costly and usually at least ten treatments are recommended for dramatic improvement." Read More >>>

Of course, this site is promoting their own skin care line and products but I still found their articles interesting and informative.

The Ultimate Microdermabrasion Guide has this to say about it too:

"In a nutshell, microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing treatment that uses tools or products designed for home use, in order to rejuvenate and restore natural glow to the skin. The micro dermabrasion procedure is simple and painless AND (this is the best part) is equally effective to surgical procedures (laser skin resurfacing, dermal abrasion) and chemical peels (for superficial skin imperfections only). Read More >>>

Smart Skin Care points out the difference between Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion:

"Dermabrasion is a much more invasive procedure performed using special sanding devices. Dermabrasion causes as much or more damage to the skin as laser resurfacing or deep chemical peels. The skin recovery after dermabrasion takes several weeks or more. [...]

Microdermabrasion, on the other hand, is only a mildly invasive procedure. It causes virtually no downtime and the patients can usually return to their regular activities the same day. In fact, some call microdermabrasion a lunchtime peel. Convenience and minimal recovery period account for much of the popularity of microdermabrasion."
Read More >>>

Finally, Wikipedia has this to say about microdermabrasion:

"Microdermabrasion (often referred to as Microderm) is a family of cosmetic procedures popular in day spas, doctors' practices, and medical spas in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion, to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin." Spa Water Recipes

I was looking around online today because I am tired of just plain old water right now. I am getting over a cold so my main form of beverage is a hot cup of water with some freshly squeezed lemon and honey. Yum! So good for a sore throat. Anyway, I need to drink more water and stay hydrated and taking my water bottle with plain old water just wasn't cutting it for me today. So, I went online and found these really simple and yummy Spa Water recipes. I am going to keep this post handy the next time I host my own Spa Party!

* 4 thin slices lemon
* 4 sprigs (each 2 in. long) fresh mint, slightly crushed
* 2 sprigs (each 2 in. long) fresh rosemary, slightly crushed

Preparation
In a 2- to 2 1/2-quart pitcher, combine water, cucumber, lemon, mint, and rosemary. Serve, or cover and chill at least 2 hours or up to 8 hours. Add ice cubes just before serving.

Spa Water
(by Chef Scott Leibfried)

Ingredients
* 1 orange, sliced
* 1 lemon, sliced
* 1 lime, sliced
* 1/2 grapefruit, pink or white, sliced
* 1 cup fresh mint leaves

Directions
Add all of the ingredients to a clear pitcher and fill with ice water. Best served slightly chilled or at room temperature.

Spa Cucumber Water
(by Kim Vallee)

In order for the cucumber to fully release its juice, you need to prepare it the day before your event.

Ingredients:
* 1 cucumber, sliced and unpeeled + 6-7 cucumber slices for decoration
* 1 1/2 to 2 liters of water
* 3 mint sprigs + 2 mint sprigs for decoration
* Half a lemon, sliced and unpeeled
* Ice cubes

Directions:
In a pitcher, mix the water, cucumber, 3 mint sprigs and lemon. Let it rest on the fridge for 24 hours. If you prepare the water at the last minute, cut the first cucumber in three or four pieces. Then, squeeze the cucumber pieces to release all the juice.

Before serving remove the cucumber slices used to flavor the water. Then stir with a wooden spoon, add some ice cubes, 6 or 7 fresh cucumber slices and the remaining 2 mint sprigs. Enjoy this refreshing drink.

Cucumber Rosemary Spa Water

Ingredients:
* 10 cucumber sliced
* 1 fresh rosemary sprig
* Water
* Ice

Directions:
Put the cucumber and rosemary in a pitcher. Fill the half of the pitcher with ice cubes. Fill with water. Let it macerate in the fridge for 24 hours before serving.

Orange and Green Apple Spa Water
(by Kim Vallee)

Ingredients:
* 1 orange, sliced
* 2-3 slices of green apple
* 1/2 lemon, juiced
* Water
* Ice

Directions:
Squeeze some lemon juice on the slices of green apple. Put the apple, orange, and half a lemon juice in a large pitcher. Fill the half of the pitcher with ice cubes. Fill with water. Let it rest 24 hours in the fridge before serving.

These recipes would be great with sparkling water too and would make it fun to drink too! There are tons of different variations out there so experiment with ingredients that suit your tastebuds. Let me know if you try any of these recipes or have one you would like to share.

A Cure for Carpel Tunnel?

Well, okay maybe not a cure but I have gotten reports from another rep (hi Brenda!) whose customer is selling the Center Pulse Point Cream for her. Hmmm, she sounds like a great opportunity to become a rep herself maybe? ;) I think it is awesome and am glad to hear of a new use for this amazing product! It actually makes a lot of sense as I have used it on sore muscles and also on my wrist when I was going through therapy. I had pulled or strained or did something horrible to my wrist and was doing massage/physical therapy to heal it. I had to keep up the massage at home and I decided to try the CPPC and it really does help a lot. I know I will use it next time I am on the computer too much and my wrist gets achy. Report back if it works for you too!

Enter to Win a NEW Spring Product!

I originally was going to hold this drawing on Facebook but then I just learned about their new rules about how all sorts of contests/drawings/giveaways are now flat out prohibited. Bah humbug. It's too bad too because it was a fun way to get more fans on my Facebook Page but now I am going to have to figure out another way to do that. So, while it is not required to become a fan of my page, it would be most appreciated! Also, while I am at it ... I recently started a Twitter page too but I have no idea how to use it yet. I would love to have you follow me and let me know what you want to see on both FB and Twitter. Ok, now for the details of this giveaway!

You did read my blog post a few days ago where Sensaria announced their new Spring 2010 products right? If you didn't then go there and read all about it. Then come back and enter my drawing!

I am celebrating the Spring 2010 release by giving away one of these products to a lucky person. All you have to do is leave a comment here to enter! I have moderation turned on so it may take a little bit for me to approve it. Send me an email if you have any problems posting a comment.

I will hold the drawing on Jan. 10, 2010. If enough people enter to win then maybe I will give two products away! I will hold a random drawing through www.random.org and announce the winner here. Winner must provide mailing and contact information in order to receive the prize. No purchase necessary.

New Spring 2010 Products Announced!

Can you believe spring is almost here? Well, it might still be winter but that just means that spring is just right around the corner! Sensaria has just announced their new spring product line and I am really excited about them! I believe they officially go on sale in February but you can host a party in January and get a sneak preview! I really want to get my January booked up solid so contact me right away to get on my schedule. Also, if you become a fan of my Facebook Fan Page then I will be giving away some free products too!

Here are our new products:

Home Fragrance Oil (0.33 oz ~ $9.00)
Aroma-Sensory Burner ( $18.00)

We have two new Aroma-Sensory fragrances for your home plus a stylish burner to accompany them too! The first new scent is "Moroccan Vanilla" which has fragrance notes of Vanilla, Rose and Patchouli. It is a perfect vanilla scent and you can use it to set the mood for a romantic evening. The other scent is "Fresh Cucumber" which has fragrance notes of Cucumber, Lemon and Mandarin. It is the perfect cucumber scent that will leave your home fresh and clean smelling. I can't wait to smell these new scents!

All you need to do for these new Home Fragrance Oils is to place a few drops into the bowl at the top of the Aroma-Sensory Burner. Place a tea lite in the opening below. Burn for only 10 minutes until long-lasting fragrance is released. Sounds easy to me! The burner can also be used for our other two scents "Alpha" (orange/vanilla) and "Beta" (peppermint/eucalyptus).

Jojoba Body Lotion Spray (6 oz ~ $18.00)
This product is 100% Vegan with 90% Organic content! It is a naturally unscented lotion spray delivers lightweight moisture and instant hydration to dry body skin. It features Jojoba Oil, Aloe Juice, Coconut and Neem Oils to hydrate without being greasy or competing with any other fragrance you are wearing. All you do is spray on your skin and rub it in. How easy does that sound?

Jojoba oil is a wonderful natural moisturizer since the chemical makeup closely resembles our own natural oil in our skin. I love that we have another option since the bottle of Jojoba Oil that we offer can be a bit messy and tricky to take with you.

Tea Tree and Lime Hand Cleansing Gel (Set of 2) (2oz ~ $16.00)
This is a product I am really excited about. It is a waterless hand sanitizer that has 74% Organic content and 100% Vegan. This aloe-rich gel naturally nourishes and cleanses skin. It is a healthy alternative to harsh hand sanitizers. The key ingredients are Aloe Juice, Corn-based Alcohol, Lime Essential Oil, Tea Tree Oil and Witch Hazel.

All you need to do is rub it on your hands and allow it to evaporate. Your hands will feel soft, never dried out! I really hope it smells as good as it sounds. We go through a ton of hand sanitizer in our house and I am really looking forward to providing a natural one for my kids to use. Also, this product comes in a set of two so you can always have one handy to use.

SPF 15 Spring Lip Balm Flavor Trio ($12.00)
If you haven't tried our lip balms yet then what are you waiting for? Now the three scents will be Tropical Mango, Tangy Grapefruit and Refreshing Spearmint. Mango is my all time favorite scent so this trio is one I am definitely stocking up on!

This moisturizing lip balm provides long-lasting, great tasting moisture while protecting your lips from the damaging effects of the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. Helps prevent dryness and chapping, leaving your lips soft and healthy. No petroleum, lanolin, chemical preservatives or artificial colors. PABA free.

What the Heck is a Bath Tea?

Yes, it is a new product and concept this holiday season! In case you missed it, we now are offering Bath Teas in our fabulous Mirabelle Plum Spice scent. Well, a lot of people have a puzzled look when I tell them about it so let me try to explain it. Our bath tea contains sea salt and fragrance plus some floral bits and bobs too. Instead of scooping it out of a jar, we offer it in a convenient pouch that looks like an oversized tea bag. This way the salts and fragrance dissipate into your bath water without leaving anything for you behind to clean up.

Now, what else can you do with these neat little bath teas? You can throw a bag in your sock, sweater or lingerie drawer. Put one in your closet to spread the delicious plum scent throughout your clothes. Stash one in your glove box or sun visor to freshen your car. You can add a bag to your foot soak. How about boiling a pot of water on the stove and give your whole house a warm, spicy scent for a holiday party? Let me know if you have a favorite use!

The Importance of Exfoliating

I truly believe that exfoliating your skin once or twice a week is essential for good skin care. I know that my skin seems to need it in order to keep breakouts away and plus, it just plain makes my skin so soft and smooth. I just feel that my skin builds up dirt and dead skin cells quicker than some so I tend to exfoliate every other day. Another benefit of regular exfoliation is that it allows the other products that you put on your skin to penetrate deeper and work better too. I am excited to have such a great selection of exfoliators from Sensaria to offer people with every different skin type and problem!

Sea Kelp Scrub ~ This was the first scrub that I fell in love with. I enjoy the scent and the walnut shells and apricot seeds provide the physical exfoliation in this scrub. It will really help keep your pores clear of debris and dirt which can lead to clogged pores and blemishes. People with normal, combination or oily skin can use this scrub. I just gently massage onto my face after cleansing and then rinse and follow with a toner and moisturizer. Also, massaging your skin can help promote the skin to create new skin cells so not only are you revealing newer skin after exfoliating but it will help keep you skin looking fresh for longer!

Enzyme Exfoliating Treatment ~ You should not use a physical exfoliator on skin that has blemishes because you will just break open the blemishes and spread the acne causing bacteria around your face and can potentially cause more breakouts. That is why I recommend this exfoliator and plus it is great for anyone who has dry or sensitive skin too. Instead of a physical exfoliant, this one uses fruit enzymes from Papaya and Pineapple that gently dissolve dead surface cells. It is just like putting on a creamy lotion on your skin. I put this on after cleansing in the shower and continue washing my body or conditioning my hair for as long as possible. Rinse it off and follow with a toner and moisturizer.

Face Scrub For Men ~ This product isn't just for men! I love using it especially when my face exploded when I got pregnant with my daughter. Plus, sometimes I am in a rush (what mom isn't?) in the shower so I will use this scrub since it foams up slightly and I feel like I am getting clean and exfoliated at the same time. This product uses microbeads of volcanic pumice to provide a physical exfoliation. For men who use this product, massage your face before shaving as it will provide you with a closer shave. It will help raise up stubble and get rid of dead skin cells which can clog razors. It will also help prevent ingrown hairs. I would suggest that men and anyone with acne prone or oily skin could use this scrub as well.

Microdermabrasion Creme ~ If people think scrubs are too harsh on their skin then maybe they are not using a good quality scrub or perhaps they are using it too often. Or perhaps they just need to start using our Microdermabrasion Creme! This product is gentle enough even for people with sensitive and dry skin who might not have thought they could use a physical scrub before. It uses a gentle blend of volcanic microdermabrasion crystals suspended in a soothing, conditioning crème. It is really far superior to any scrub I have used before. The crystals are so fine that you barely notice them at all but you certainly won't miss the results! I was looking around at various spas on their microdermabrasion treatments and they can cost anywhere between $90 and $130 for an hour treatment! This little jar will last much, much longer and you don't have to go to a fancy schmancy salon either!

The Purpose of a Toner

I ask this question at almost every spa party because I think toners have gotten a bad rap over the years and also people don't really know what they are for. It's really easy actually once you know.

Our toners are meant to be misted onto your face after cleansing and before moisturizing. You can use a cotton ball and swipe it over your face but personally I feel it is a waste of a cotton ball. If you are using a toner now that contains alcohol or your cotton ball is dark/black after using your toner ... please don't use it anymore. It is probably too harsh on your skin. A good cleanser should remove all dirt and debris from your skin so if anything is still on your face then you need to use a good Eye Makeup Remover and/or cleanse your skin again.

So, what is the purpose of a toner? To balance the PH of your skin and to prepare your skin for moisturizer. Any cleanser will change the PH of your skin in order to get it clean and you will notice that by using our toners you will need to use very little moisturizer after. Let me know what you think!

More Uses for Freshing Mist

This tip came from another rep who was at a team meeting a few months ago. It just stuck in my head and I thought it was time to share! If I got the story wrong then please correct me! I recall that she was walking past someone's office when she saw a bottle of Sensaria's Freshening Mist sitting in her window. She knocked on the door and asked her about it and why it was in her office instead of her bathroom. Well, it turns out that the lady used it for an air freshener for her office! You can't burn candles or have heavily scented products in an office environment and she just loved the clean, citrus smell that the mist had. I thought that was a clever use of the product especially since that bottle lasts way longer than the rest of the skin care products!

You also may have read my previous tip about "Freshening Mist Treats Diaper Rash" and I have now started using it to freshen up my daughter's room after a poopy diaper! I have also used it in the diaper pail and in her stinky shoes too! It is a great multipurpose product that you can use in more places than just your face. Did you know that you can use the Freshening Mist for setting your makeup or as a quick pick me up in the middle of the afternoon? It is really refreshing especially on a hot day or in a stuffy office. It hydrates your skin and the scent is a nice refresher too. Let me know what your favorite use is for this product!
