What I loved about Sensaria

It is hard to talk about Sensaria in the past tense but that is the reality. They are gone and I am sad I lost a lot of my favorite products. At least I stocked up on the ones I really can't go without! They closed their business while I was on vacation in Sweden but now that I am home and recovered from my jet lag, I have been researching other skin care companies like crazy! I have been reading and watching where other reps have gone so I had a good list to start with. Also, I have mostly focused on skin care as that was one of my main loves. I figured I could find a lotion, body wash and body scrub much easier than a good skin care line. I am done with my rigorous testing of many different product lines and found one that I really like. Before I go into why I like that company and their products, I feel it is necessary to explain why I loved Sensaria so here we go!

However, maybe I should go back a little further first? I was blessed to have been introduced to some good skin care in my teens as I started out with using Clinique. It was great for my skin at the time and established a good foundation for me. However, when I went to college it wasn't always in my budget so I tried other things. I even sold Mary Kay for a short while too but that ended up irritating my skin after a while so I stopped selling it. I don't remember having problems with bad acne in my teens but there certainly was a problem with breakouts like any normal teen I suppose. I do remember having oily skin. I know my acne problems developed as I got older and especially flared up when I had kids. In my mid-20's, it was bad enough that I tried Proactive but that didn't last long as it was too harsh on my skin. I ended up settling on Origins for a few years before I tried Sensaria. I liked that they were sort of natural and stuff smelled good and it also seemed to work well for my skin too.

So, I was in my early 30's when a friend invited me to my first Sensaria spa party. I had never heard of them nor did I know what exactly a "spa party" was. My friend told me we were going to get pampered, soak our feet and drink some wine. That was all I needed to know! I ended up going with very little expectations and was very pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. I really loved the mango body butter and the skin care which really shocked me! I couldn't stop touching my face as it felt so soft. I think my husband thought I was a bit crazy for asking if he could feel a difference too. I ended up trading parties with this friend for about 2 years before I decided to join Sensaria and sell the products myself.

That was 5 years ago and I still love the products. I loved the way the skin care products smelled and how soft they made my skin feel. I loved the Citrus Cleaner and it was one item that could do so much! I could use on everything from blood and ink stains to washing windows and veggies. I even did my laundry with it! I loved how the body butter was never greasy or sticky and hydrated my skin all day. I loved the Nourishing Moisturizer and how it helped my son's eczema. I loved the mango, coconut and rosemary mint scents. I miss that sweet orange scent too that they had for a while. It was the best shampoo & conditioner until they discontinued it. I loved the Sweet & Smooth body scrub because of that orange scent and it was great to shave with. You get to exfoliate with the sugar and salt and then shave with the remaining oil. I loved the Optimize Eye Serum for getting rid of any puffiness and dark circles. I loved the Men's Face Scrub as it was sort of citrus-y and foamed so it cleaned and exfoliated at the same time! I also loved the Microdermabrasion scrub too as it was the gentlest scrub I have ever used and it made my skin so soft. I loved the foot scrub too as it was so minty and fresh and it made my feet feel great too.

Honestly, I could go on and on and on about what I loved. However, since I focused mainly on skin care during my search maybe I should tell you exactly what I used so maybe you can get a better idea of what all the other companies had to compare with? Here goes!

Also, every other day or so I would exfoliate with either the Men's Face Scrub or Microdermabrasion depending on what I felt like. I also tried to mask with the Sea Silk Mask in between the days I scrub but I fell out of habit with it and used it about once a week. So, I think that about covers it!

Wow! I just got home from our National Convention this weekend which was a blast as usual. It was an informative, inspirational, energizing, motivating, heartwarming, compassionate, giving and compelling weekend. I don't know if I have enough words to describe it all! Of course, one of the most exciting things they reveal at Convention is our new product line for Fall 2009! As sad as I am to see at least one of our products to be discontinued at the end of the month ... I am super excited to have these 4 new products to replace them. Plus, we have a fantastic new catalog too! Are you ready?

I just tried this last night and wow ... what a difference already! It was super gentle and the volcanic micro-crystals were so fine and soothing. You definitely needed just a small amount and if there is a little water or moisture on your skin, then it helps it go a little further. I love the other scrubs we have but this one takes it to a whole new level. I bet even people with sensitive skin would enjoy using this product too. It has that nice blue tint which means Azulene is a key ingredient. It is soothing and calming since it is derived from the Chamomile plant. I sure can't wait to try it again! After doing some research, I found an interesting WikiPedia article as it gives an overview of what the term means and the different methods you can get microdermabrasions. I also found very well done web site called www.skinabrasion.net which is written by a lady who gets regular treatments at the dermatologist. She has also reviewed various in-home products to help maintain her skin between professional treatments. Maybe we can get her to review Sensaria's newest product?

I miss our Sweet Orange scent when they discontinued it in 2008 and I am glad I still have 1/2 of a bottle left. However, I am so happy to have a replacement for it now! The new lotion is slightly different than the old Sweet Orange Body Lotion but I don't mind the difference at all. It is a bit richer but of course blends in without any greasy feel. The scent is a little more on the tangerine side of citrus for me and that mix with warm vanilla is a wonderful combination. I know my fellow Sweet Orange lovers and all those Sweet & Smooth fans are going to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this product! I can't wait to have people try it!

Men's Skin Care is not just for men!

Well, maybe you didn't know that Sensaria even carried a Men's Skin Care line? Well, we do! I have blogged about the products before on their great use for acne prone skin. I used it when I was pregnant and broke out like crazy! The Tea Tree Oil and soothing desert plant extracts really helped a lot. However, I just read in our weekly newsletter from the home office about this new use for our men's line!

A customer of another Sensaria rep Maryrose Ramacci uses the Face Wash For Men to shave her legs with! I have always used Sweet & Smooth for all my shaving needs but I am going to try the Face Wash For Men next time! Also, the Hydragel for Men is great for those post-shaving bumps too. Who knew? What to do with that dry winter skin?

It's the middle of winter and dry skin seems to be a problem everywhere! For my friends who already have dry skin ... it's a constant battle to stay soft and hydrated. Even I am feeling dry and itchy most days. Today it is raining and I am actually glad since the air has been so dry lately. It was nice to enjoy the sunshine here in Seattle and we had a good week of nice weather. However, my skin got really dried out so it is time to pamper it with Sensaria! 

There are a number of salt scrubs that we carry that are excellent so I thought I would try to explain all the different ones we carry. They all will exfoliate that dead, dry, rough skin and reveal beautiful, glowing, moisturized skin below!

1) SWEET & SMOOTH ~ This is our #1 selling product for over 7 years in a row now. There are so many reasons why! The sweet orange and almond oils give a wonderful cherry and uplifting scent that is bound to make you smile when you put it on. Orange Oil is a mood enhancer so it is hard to be sad after you use it. My favorite way to use Sweet & Smooth is to shave with it as I described in a previous blog post. I think it is the most hydrating of all our body scrubs but it is also the most messy too. I like that it has sugar and sea salt since they have different size crystals for a great and effective exfoliation. The downside to this product? You have to keep it out of the shower/tub because the crystals harden if they get wet. Also, it only comes in one scent and you do have to clean up a bit after otherwise the shower/tub is pretty slick for the next person. I just squirt some body wash on the tub and swish around with my feet and it takes care of it. 

2) MOISTURIZING SALT GLOWS ~ These are so popular and so easy to use! They come in four different scents from our Signature line: Mango, Cherry Almond, Green Tea and Rosemary Mint. The salt glows come in a handy tube that you can keep in the shower to use anytime! The sea salt and oils are a perfect blend for a quick spa treatment right in your own shower. 

3) WHITE SAND BODY SCRUB ~ This is our newest addition to our product line and debuted this month! It has a wonderfully light, tropical scent that will take you away to an island paradise in your own shower! Not only does it have sea salt and moisturizing oils but it also contains white beach sand too. The sand will continue to exfoliate all those dry, dead skin cells even after the salt has washed away! It's the perfect way to get ready for the beach!

4) REJUVENATING SALT MUD ~ I often forget about this product. You can pay a lot of money to go to a spa to have them apply this treatment or you can get the same results at home! Do you have some "trouble" areas like cellulite or sagging, aging skin on your thighs or buttocks? This is the perfect product to target those areas. It has a very refreshing minty scent and the sea salt and silt work hard at exfoliating and purifying your skin.

Silky, Smooth, Sexy Legs

You too can have those sexy, silky, smooth legs that you see on models in those fashion magazines! How? Well, besides being blessed with amazing genes ... you can use Sweet and Smooth. There is a reason why it is one of our top selling products! It has a simple and pure ingredient list ... Sea Salt, Sweet Almond Oil, Sugar and Sweet Orange Oil. This is one product that will never fail to make you happy! It is like opening a jar of sunshine. Who wouldn't be happy about that? Did you ever wonder why there is both sugar and salt to exfoliate? Each ingredient has a different size crystal to stimulate and refresh your skin.

It always amazes me how many times people are surprised at what my #1 reason for using this product: Shaving! The sugar and salt exfoliates your skin and gets all the hairs to stand up which results in a super close shave. I have even used it on my underarms and bikini area with no razor burn. Here are the instructions for a silky, smooth shave:

1) Use it in the shower or the bath but make sure to not get any water into the jar. It will just make the crystals hard.

2) Apply a scoop or two over your whole body and scrub gently. Pay close attention to any rough spots like elbows.

3) Rinse off the sugar and salt crystals in the shower or bath.

4) The oils left on your skin make the perfect surface for shaving.

5) Towel dry and voila! I bet people won't be able to stop touching your skin!

Just be careful since it does tend to leave your bathtub or shower stall a bit slick. I usually squirt a bit of our Body Wash and swish it around with my foot and it is all ready to go for the next person!

Jojoba Oil's Many Uses

Jojoba Oil (pronounced "ho-HO-bah") is one of the most versatile and pure products we offer. It is the golden liquid of desert Jojoba shrub. Native to the arid deserts of the United States and Mexico, Jojoba's basic molecular structure is very similar to sebum, our skin's own natural oil. It absorbs quickly into the skin so there is no greasy feeling after using it. This is truly a 100% natural product and has no scent whatsoever. I also just learned that Jojoba Oil isn't really an oil at all but it is actually a liquid wax. They only call it an "oil" because it is easier to relate to since it looks more like an "oil" than a "wax". You can even eat it if you want to but I don't recommend it since it is non-digestible. You will only need a tiny drop or two of this golden elixir in most applications so it is a good thing that this stuff never goes bad. That is probably due to the fact that this oil has natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and does not go rancid like other oils.

Here are just a few things you can do with it:

1. CUTICLE TREATMENT: Take a few drops and massage into your cuticles. Push back your cuticles and enjoy the soft, supple feeling your fingers are now experiencing. If you use it on a regular basis, your nails will become stronger and healthier too.
   
2. CONDITIONER BOOST: Add a few drops to your hair conditioner for an extra boost of moisture.
   
3. HOT OIL TREATMENT: Heat a small portion (I have short hair and use about a teaspoon) or heat the bottle in a bowl of hot water. Apply it to dry hair and massage into the scalp. Cover with a warm, damp towel for 15 minutes then shampoo as usual.
   
4. DE-FRIZZER: Got those pesky flyaway hairs? Smooth them down with a touch oil into the palms of your hands and rub the ends of your hair to keep it soft and sleek.
   
5. MOISTURIZER: Apply a few drops onto your skin -- even your face -- and let it absorb into your skin. You can even add it to your lotion to give it an extra boost of hydrating power.
   
6. LIP BALM: Rub a drop onto your lips for a natural and scent free smile.
   
7. MASSAGE: A little will go a long way and it makes a great massage oil. Add your own essential oil to it for a great scented massage.
   
8. MAKEUP REMOVER: I have read that you can use it to remove all makeup including that tough to remove eye makeup too. Sensaria has their own great Eye Makeup Remover but hey if you already have this versatile product then why not use it instead? So, just Soak a cotton pad or ball and gently wipe your makeup away. An added bonus is that you are moisturizing your skin and eye lashes too!
   
9. SHAVING: Why not rub this on your skin before you apply your shaving cream. It will leave your skin nice and smooth and help prevent razor burn too. Or, if you have our Sweet & Smooth around then use that instead as the exfoliation really helps.
